Maybe I'm confused...
Katie and I were talking. Can we put in NOTHING from last semester for this show?
We can put anything we want. It is our show. Just no foundations work. Use your best judgement. But think quality, not quantity. This should be your very best work.
I would rather hang 3 nice works that I made in a show than 50 of my mediocre things that people don't want to see.
I have 2 or 3 drawings, 2 paintings, 2 prints, at least one maybe two big drawing series, and a ceramic piece.
Now, our February graduate show will be smaller and should be the series/project you are working on this semester.
OK, I was confused. I thought ONLY this semester. That might redefine things a bit. But I have a really cool idea for a painting series for this semester that I'm hoping will go well.
You should prepare more work that you think you'll need. Prepare meaning ready to exhibit. If we can edit down to a really strong show rather than trying to find pieces to fill the space, everyone will be much happier. Also, please remember that this is a group show, and you'll want your strongest work to strengthen the group. It's not ten solo exhibits.
Let's plan our Tuesday discussion around what will be exhibited along with up dates of individual tasks. Think about your own inventory, how many pieces are you planning to show? How many pedestal pieces will there be? How many wall pieces? What about video, is anyone else planning this besides Randilyn? Will there be some kind of group installation and what will it be? Where will it be? We can project the floor plan to make it more concrete.
I did have some fun pieces from last semester. I want the focus to be this semester, but I did have ceramics and graphics as well as painting then too.
I can have any of those ready for display quite easily. But I'm hoping what I'm planning for painting will be what will work. I ran the idea past Deb this weekend and if the first couple turn out it should be a cool display for this.
